Dr Rebecca Black has worked in Australia, New Zealand, and has recently moved from the United Kingdom to
join Mingara Medical.

Her special interests include women’s health, contraception, care of the elderly, in addition to
paediatrics and ear, nose & throat issues.

Rebecca has the DRCOG (women’s health qualification) and is also qualified to fit Mirena IUD’s and
contraceptive implants.

Rebecca will be available for appointments on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

Dr Ben Eksteen joined Mingara Medical in October 2013. Originally from South Africa, he spent 17
years in general practice in Canada before deciding to join previous colleagues of his in sunny
Australia.

Ben enjoys all aspects of general practice, from neonatal to palliative care, including all acute and
chronic ailments and prenatal shared care. Women’s health including contraception, pap smears and
Mirena IUD insertion are also areas of interest.

Ben has done further training in skin cancer treatment including a Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine
and he manages a range of skin care conditions, including skin cancer screening and management.

He promotes a holistic approach to medicine and health in general and appreciates the value of a
balanced lifestyle and prevention of disease.

In addition, Ben also has excellent experience in sports medicine, having worked in close relation with
several Orthopaedic Surgeons with a subspecialty in sports-related injuries. He also has an interest and
a background in peri-operative medicine.

Personally, Ben enjoys spending time with his young family. He lives an active lifestyle, participating in
long-distance cycling, mountain biking, running and triathlon – having competed and finished in the
Canadian Ironman competition.He is also an aspiring guitarist and surfer and although neither

He is one of the directors of Mingara Medical, is committed to the practice and hopes to spend the rest
of his career here.

Dr Raya Grishina-Gunn

Dr Raya Grishina-Gunn graduated from the post-graduate medical program at Sydney University in
2002, having completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (physiotherapy) prior and working as a senior
physiotherapist in SWSAHS.

She has been working on the Central Coast since 2004.

Raya has experience in all aspects of general practice with a particular interest in skin cancer medicine,
cosmetic medicine, nutritional and environmental medicine, women’s health, minor surgical procedures
and mental health.

Raya has also completed the Certificate of Cosmetic Medicine from Australasian College of Aesthetic
Medicine and performs cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections and fillers.

Raya has a special interest and additional training in Skin Cancer medicine & surgery and dermoscopy,
having completed her Certificate of Dermoscopy and Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery and
Advanced Skin Cancer surgery training from the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. She is a member
of SCCA.

Raya has had additional training in cosmetic injections, photodynamic therapy and cosmetic peels. She
is a member of IMCAS.

Raya has had additional training in Nutritional and Environmental medicine and allergy training and she
is a member of ACNEM.

Raya has a special interest and further training in mental health and focused psychological strategies.

She worked for ten years in the RAAF gaining experience in occupational medicine, musculoskeletal
and sports medicine and preventative health, as well as travel medicine.

Raya enjoys combining nutritional and lifestyle well-being with traditional medicine to help achieve the
best health outcomes for patients.

In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family, seeing friends and reading.

Dr Dershini Kumar graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2008. She has worked in a
variety of fields since then in Sydney, the Central Coast and rural NSW. She has extensive critical care
and emergency experience.She received her fellowship from the RACGP in 2015.

Dershini received her fellowship from the RACGP in 2015.

Her interests lie in women’s health, paediatrics, mental health and chronic disease management. She
has also completed her Diploma of Paediatrics through the University of Sydney.

In her free time, Dershini loves travelling, spending time with her loved ones and visiting the Central
Coast’s many beautiful beaches.

Dr Chris Lloyd grew up in Liverpool in the north of England and graduated from Bristol University in the
UK in 2000. He worked in several hospitals around the south west of England before eventually joining
a large General Practice in Bristol, having gained his membership examinations with distinction.

Chris moved to Australia in 2009 with his wife Andrea and their three young children, having grown tired
of the rainy and grey days in England and keen to experience life down under.  After working at Lake
Munmorah for four years, he decided to join Mingara Medical in 2013 and was the first doctor to see a
patient at the practice on day one!  Being part of the fabric of the surgery, Chris has loved watching the
clinic grow and expand and is committed to its exciting future.

Chris is heavily involved in the local community with his local surf club at Shelly Beach, playing soccer
for The Entrance Over 35s and coaching his children’s soccer teams.  In 2016, Chris set up a medical
clinic at Coast Shelter in West Gosford providing free healthcare to those going through a tough time
and needing extra support.  He is passionate about improving access to healthcare for all and enjoys all
areas of general practice with particular experience in mental health, paediatrics, men’s health and
sports medicine.

Dr Jean-Pierre Maré Immigrated to Australia in 2013 from Canada, where he spent many
years in a rural surgical position and as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of
Alberta.

His special interest is Skin Cancer Medicine. He is an active accredited member of the Skin
Cancer College of Australasia, under which he successfully completed his Diploma in Skin
Cancer Medicine and Surgery, as well as in Dermoscopy.

Dr Maré enjoys procedural medicine, which includes procedures such as skin cancer surgery
(including skin grafts and skin flap surgery), cosmetic fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.

Dr Maré also performs Mirena and Implanon insertions.

He is an avid sportsman and participates in triathlons, paddle-boarding, mountain biking and
ocean swimming.

Dr Reiss graduated from medical school in South Africa in 1997. She has had extensive experience as a GP, hospitalist and in the ED in both Australia and Canada.

Since 2014, Dr Reiss has designed and implemented a range of weight-loss models and is highly respected within her industry.

In 2017, Dr Reiss attained her Certification as a Lifestyle Medicine Physician through both the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine, and the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She was part of the first cohort to attain this new qualification in Australia.

Dr Quinten Willemse qualified in South Africa in 1997 and then moved to Canada where he
obtained his Specialist General Practice certification.  In 2008 he permanently relocated to
Australia with his family and joined the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners as a
fellow.

While being a general practitioner, he also enjoyed Critical Care for many years– working in
ICU & Emergency Medicine and as an admitting VMO.

Since 2011, he has focused on GP practice only and enjoys the variety and challenges of
General Practice.

He established Mingara Medical in 2013 where he continues to be active in business
development and strategic planning. He believes systems and technology are paramount in
creating the General Practice of the future.

Quinten consults on all aspects of Family Medicine and is skilled in procedural work including
skin cancer management. He encourages patients to share in the responsibility of managing
their own health.

Away from work, he dabbles in triathlon where his motto is “Why just suck at one sport?”

He understands that few people can pronounce his surname and is happy to be called
Quinten.

Dr James Wolstenholme graduated from Birmingham University Medical School in 1996 and
worked in local hospitals for several years, gaining experience in many different specialties of
medicine and qualifying to join the Royal College of Physicians, before deciding on General
Practice as a career.

Subsequently, James was a partner in a large practice for about eight years, during which time
he developed special interests in cardiology and diabetes, and was able to extend his
experience of the former by also working part-time in the Cardiology Department at the Queen
Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Eventually, the lure of Australia became too great and James moved here with his wife Maggie
and their two boys in 2011.

He loves the lifestyle on the Central Coast and is very happy to be part of the local community
here. In his spare time, James enjoys music, reading and keeping fit.  He plays Over 35s
soccer for the local Barnstoneworth Football Club.

Dr Frederik Steyn graduated from medical school in 2004. He then completed a Diploma in
Anesthesiology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He moved to Canada to work as a full
time rural GP Anesthesiologist in 2008.

He specialised as a Family Physician in Canada and was also a clinical lecturer with the Department of
Family Physicians with the University of Alberta. He is currently also a Fellow of the Royal Australian
Colleges of General Practitioners of Australia.

He enjoys all aspects of General Practice, especially sports and acute care medicine. He enjoys the
challenges of chronic disease management which he approaches on an evidence-based manner.

He loves spending time outdoors with his young family. He is a keen mountain biker and he is motivated
to start dabbling in water sports on the lovely Central Coast, which he hopes to call home for the rest of
his life.

Michelle trained and graduated in South Africa in 1998. She relocated to Canada in 2002 and worked there for 15 years in a general practice as a rural family physician. Michelle also shared care in a small rural hospital, extended care facility, emergency department and enjoyed the opportunity to do low-risk baby deliveries. Michelle has experience in all aspects of general practice with a special interest in prenatal and postpartum care, women’s health, contraception, pap smears, Mirena IUD insertion & paediatrics.

Michelle believes in an active balance lifestyle and enjoys spending time with her young family, running, biking and hiking. She takes pleasure in outdoor activities and spending time with her friends.

Jessica Moran is a Midwife and Registered Nurse who has joined the Mingara Medical team and The Pregnancy Centre.

After completing her Bachelor of Nursing in 2004, Jess enjoyed working in emergency and paediatrics. Jess then returned to university to complete a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery and has been working as a Midwife since 2009. Jess has furthered her studies and has completed a Master of Midwifery in addition to other short courses.

Jess provides our Midwifery services at The Pregnancy Centre where she works alongside our GP’s. She has a strong interest in pregnancy planning and preconception care, assisting women with early pregnancy bleeding and routine antenatal and postnatal care.

When not at work, Jess is kept busy with her four young children and enjoys playing netball. Jess is passionate about health services on the Central Coast, she was born and raised here and couldn’t think of a better place to raise her own children.
