MINGARA MEDICAL WHAT’S ON…

There is a lot happening over the next couple of months at Mingara Medical.

THE FLU & YOU

Did you know the most effective way to prevent a flu this winter is through vaccination? Anyone can get the flu, and for some patients it can have serious complications. If you are pregnant, aged 65 or older, of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, over six months of age and have a chronic disease you qualify for a free flu vaccine. If you do not fall into any of these categories, there will be a small fee, but the benefits could be enormous. Our surgery has had many confirmed cases of the flu over the past few weeks, so now is the time to call and make an appointment for your annual flu shot.

OSTEOPOROSIS SCREENING

As part of our commitment to providing you with better health, Mingara Medical is running an Osteoporosis Screening Service. A mobile screening van will be visiting us from Monday 7th July to Friday 11th July. On average, in Australia someone is admitted to hospital with an osteoporotic fracture every 6 minutes. If you are over 70 years old, you will receive an invitation by mail to attend the screening. If you are under 70 and are interested in participating in the screening, please make an appointment to see your doctor.

WEIGHT LOSS CLINIC

Mingara Medical is currently organising our second weight-loss clinic, to commence in July. This clinic is for a select group of eligible patients, and incorporates the use of dietician, exercise advice and weekly weigh-ins to keep you motivated on your weight loss journey. There is a small cost involved, but the health benefits are enormous.   Even a small weight loss can have a significant impact on your blood pressure, risk of diabetes and general well-being. If you are interested in joining this program please call and let reception know.

ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PATIENTS

If you are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background, please make sure you let our staff know. We are committed to the closing the gap program and improving access to primary care for our patients.

For appointments or to discuss any of these health initiatives please call Mingara Medical on 43023333.
